Eska is the result of nature following her true nature. Our water itself is as pure and pristine as the rain and snow that mother nature provides. Preserving and protecting the environment is vital to Eska’s future. And our move to using 100% recycled plastic bottles is one of the many ways we are doing everything we can to protect that future and our planet.
In partnership with Plastrec, a Quebec-based manufacturer of recycled plastic, we are on the road to moving our entire line of natural spring water in plastic bottles to recycled plastic, with the 350 and 550ml rPET bottles already on the shelves.
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a solid, transparent and light type of plastic, mainly used for bottling soft drinks, juices and water. Economical and easy to recycle, it also presents a low risk of by-product contamination in the environment. The addition of the letter ‘r’ in front of ‘PET’ simply means that the resin used has already been recycled at least once.
Giving new life to plastic that already exists eliminates the need to make new plastic, creating a closed-loop recycling and reuse system. Eska’s new rPET bottles are made from plastic collected right out of Quebec’s Blue Box System and are 100% recyclable themselves—our way of making sure the cycle is continually renewed.
rPET bottles are lighter than other types of packaging (including Tetra Pack and aluminium), which means lower transportation costs and therefore lower greenhouse gas emissions. Transparent and unbreakable, they are completely safe and don’t present any health risks.
The PET or rPET containers you toss in your recycling bin are taken to a facility that sorts, cleans, and converts the plastic into rPET flakes or granules. And these particles are used to make new food-grade packaging.
To compensate for the break in polymer chains that occurs when resin goes through several thermal cycles, recyclers use additives that increase the viscosity and durability of PET to multiply its life cycles, ensuring that the material can be renewed again and again.
We found our ideal partner in Plastrec, a local company that produces extremely high quality food-grade rPET. A pioneer in developing recycled PET from post-consumer containers, this North American manufacturer has been supplying the world’s leading food-grade rPET for close to 19 years.
We’re proud to support the circular economy and extend the life and value of natural resources right here at home. Partnering with a Quebec manufacturer keeps our environmental footprint small and helps create local jobs all while supporting an industry that’s committed to the continuous reuse of materials. Making following our true nature that much more sustainable for our province and our planet.
