ESKA AND RPET: A SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIP FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT

Eska is the result of nature following her true nature. Our water is as pure as the snow and rain it comes from. Preserving and protecting the planet and our natural resources is essential to Eska’s future. That’s why we’ve committed to using 100% recycled plastic to produce our water bottles.

In partnership with Plastrec, a Quebec-based manufacturer of recycled plastic, we’ve transitioned our entire line of natural spring and sparkling water to recycled plastic.

RPET, EXPLAINED

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a solid, transparent and lightweight plastic mainly used for bottling soft drinks, juices and water. Economical and easy to recycle, it also presents a low risk of by-product contamination in the environment. The addition of the letter ‘r’ in front of ‘PET’ simply means that the resin used has already been recycled at least once.

By giving new life to used plastic, we are gradually eliminating the manufacture of new plastic, creating a closed-loop recycling and reuse system. Eska’s new rPET bottles are made from plastic collected straight from your recycling bin and are 100% recyclable themselves—our way of making sure the cycle is continually renewed.

KEEPING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT SMALL

rPET bottles are lighter than other types of packaging (like Tetra Pack and aluminum), which means lower transportation costs and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Transparent and unbreakable, they are completely safe.

IN MY NEXT LIFE, I’LL COME BACK AS AN ESKA BOTTLE

The PET or rPET containers you put in your recycling bin are taken to a facility that sorts, cleans, and converts the plastic into rPET flakes or granules. These particles then are used to make new food-grade packaging.

To compensate for the break in polymer chains that occurs when resin goes through several thermal cycles, recyclers use additives that increase the viscosity and durability of PET to multiply its life cycles, ensuring that the material can be renewed again and again.
