Manufacturing Process Engineer

Position Information

The Manufacturing Process Engineer works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to drive continuous improvement, standardization, and optimization of manufacturing processes. The Engineer develops and implements methods and tools to measure and improve productivity, quality, and operational performance, particularly within the bottling and plastic injection operations, while meeting cost, schedule, and health and safety objectives.

In carrying out this mandate, the Manufacturing Process Engineer works closely with the Production, Maintenance, Quality, Procurement, Shipping, Logistics, Health and Safety, IT, and Project teams. With a strong presence on the production floor, the Engineer analyzes manufacturing issues, contributes to improving equipment performance and reliability, optimizes production methods, and develops sustainable solutions aimed at reducing losses and improving operational efficiency.

The Manufacturing Process Engineer also plays an important role in supporting operators and technicians, particularly through the standardization of best practices, knowledge transfer, and implementation of new work methods. This role provides an opportunity to develop in-depth technical expertise in bottling and plastic injection processes while actively contributing to the continuous improvement and technological advancement of the facility.

Responsibilities

1. Process and Performance Optimization

  • Analyze and optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality, safety, and reliability.
  • Identify key performance losses and implement sustainable solutions using structured problem-solving and root cause analysis methods.
  • Optimize production rates, changeovers, workflows, and line balancing.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators, including OEE, downtime, micro-stoppages, speed losses, rejects, and quality.
  • Support Operations in resolving recurring manufacturing issues.
  • Identify risks and issues that may affect operational capacity or performance.
  • Recommend and implement new approaches to improve operational efficiency.

2. Methods, Standards and Documentation

  • Map, analyze, and standardize manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, work methods, reference parameters, and operational standards.
  • Ensure technical documentation is current, accessible, and consistently used by teams.
  • Develop and monitor corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Train and support production-floor personnel on methods, processes, and new standards.
  • Promote the transfer and retention of technical knowledge throughout the organization.

3. Technology, Automation and Smart Factory

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the facility’s Smart Factory / Industry 4.0 roadmap.
  • Identify and recommend technologies to improve operational performance, reliability, and visibility.
  • Support the improvement and modernization of automation systems, PLCs, and data acquisition systems.
  • Contribute to the implementation of systems for production monitoring, OEE, quality, process data, and predictive maintenance.
  • Participate in the testing and validation of new technologies and manufacturing solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and manufacturing best practices.

4. Collaboration and Operational Support

  • Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Health and Safety, IT, Planning, Engineering, and Project teams to improve and standardize practices.
  • Lead multidisciplinary workshops focused on problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Engage key stakeholders in improvement initiatives and ensure follow-up on deliverables.
  • Communicate results, recommendations, and action plans to the appropriate teams.
  • Present key performance indicators, progress, and operational issues during facility performance meetings.
  • Act as a change agent by promoting the adoption of new methods and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, as well as internal procedures and standards.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or another related discipline.
  • Membership with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), or eligibility and willingness to become a member.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, production engineering, process engineering, or continuous improvement; experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools, with the ability to apply them and transfer this knowledge to teams.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Smart Manufacturing / Industry 4.0 concepts, Microsoft Power Platform tools, and digital manufacturing systems.
  • Excellent analytical and structured problem-solving skills, combined with sound practical judgment and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize multiple initiatives simultaneously while adapting quickly to unexpected situations and operational needs.
  • Strong leadership skills, autonomy, initiative, and a demonstrated interest in continuous improvement and change management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with production-floor teams and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of applicable technical standards (ASME, NFPA, CSA, ISO, UL, ISA) and piping stress analysis is considered an asset.
